Young Organist

St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral hosts a special performance of young organists from its Young Organist program for a lunchtime recital with an eye on the future.

Developed from an idea of the Cathedral Music Department’s Astrid Sengkey, the program has developed over the last two years and the more than a dozen students, under the watchful tutelage of Gina Dutschke are progressing at a rapid rate. They are keen to show off their musical versatility on the unique 1927 Frere Casavant Organ, installed in Adelaide in 2016. The students range in ages from 9-16 and perform pieces ranging from Bach to the Beatles, with a slight preference for Bach! The recital is free (donations gleefully accepted) and open to all.

Come and be part of this year’s Adelaide Fringe in a heritage landmark venue and hear a mighty organ put through its paces by a new generation of enthusiastic melody makers.
